Top Boko Haram Member Abandons Group, Surrenders Himself, Wife And Children To The Army
A top commander of Boko Haram left the terrorist group and defected with his wife and child to a secret location manned by the Multinational Joint Task Force(MNJTF).
The defector freely denounced the terrorist groups and surrendered according to Colonel Timothy Antigha, Head of Military Public Information for MNJTF.
The defector revealed joining Boko Haram in 2015 and participating in terrorist operations in Arege, Kangarwa, Metele and Mallam Fatori.
He said he decided to surrender following the Task Force ‘s intense bombardment of terrorist positions.
“Constant air bombardments and artillery have greatly affected our plans and dampened our morale”
He said that “more fighters are willing to surrender, but they are not sure what their fate will be.”
His personal motivation was pressed for more answers, he said, “I’m not sure if our spiritual direction is right.”
A group of terrorist operatives from Boko Haram surrendered in Sector Four in Diffa, Niger Republic in March this year.
Similarly, some terrorists also surrendered in Mora, Cameroon, to Sector One troops within the same period and are currently undergoing rehabilitation.
Boko Haram defectors are now being rehabilitated by Operation SAFE CORRIDOR in Sector Three (Nigeria).
“While MNJTF will continue to step up the tempo of its kinetic operations on all fronts, it is encouraging more terrorists to reject terrorism and abandon the needless killing of innocent civilians,” said Colonel Atigha.
“We are further encouraged to pursue salvation within the various jurisdictions frameworks given for recovery,” he said.
