Three Men Arrested For Insulting Buhari On Social Media
The Police have arrested three men in Katsina State including a septuagenarian for allegedly insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State.
Lawal Abdullahi Izala,70yrs; Bahajaje Abu,30yrs; and Hamza Abubakar,27yrs, all of Gafai Quarters, Katsina,were accused of insulting Buhari and Masari in a viral video on the social media.
Spokesman for the State Police Command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the men’s arrest in a statement on Friday.
He said the three men mocked the president and the governor “contemptuously” and the police took action after their attention was “drawn” onto the video.
He added:”Accordingly, the police commissioner, Katsina state command, CP Sanusi Buba, ordered an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of Lawal Abdullahi Izala’s trio, ‘m,’ aged 70, Bahajaje Abu, ‘m, aged 30 and Hamza Abubakar, ‘m, aged 27, all of Gafai Quarters, Katsina state.
“Suspects confessed to committing the offences in the course of the investigation.
“To this end, the command wishes to warn members of the general public that police will not fold their arms and watch as disgruntled individuals break the sacred laws of the land.
“Any person found to take undue advantage of the social media to insult others will face the wrath of the law, according to the provisions of the Cyber Crime Act.”
