On Sunday, the Katsina State Police Command declared the seizure of 159 vehicles, 17 tricycles and 141 motorcycles as part of its implementation of Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s lockdown order to curb COVID-19 spread.
The commanding spokesman, Supretendent Gambo Isa, claimed in a statement that the lockdown orders restricting movements and other social, religious and economic activities in Daura, Dutsinma, Katsina, Mani, Safana, Kankia, Matazu, Musawa, Jibia and Batagarawa, as well as the closure of all borders with the states of Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa and Niger to curb the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.
He said: “The Joint Security Forces have so far placed one hundred and fifty-nine (159) motor vehicles, seventeen (17) tricycles and one hundred and forty-one (141) motorcycles in order to ensure complete compliance with the lockdown rule”.
“After the establishment and inauguration of the special mobile courts, one hundred and fifty-five (155) motor vehicle owners, seventeen (17) tricyclists and one hundred and six (106) motorcyclists were charged to the court for breach of the Quarantine and Movement Restriction Regulation (2020)” Furthermore, the violators were found guilty of various fines with or without Community.
The Command appealed to citizens to strictly comply with the requirements of the Quarantine and Movement Restriction Regulations, since this would be in the best interests of the State.
