A 57-year-old man, Joseph Akporugo and his wife, Janet, were arrested by the Ogun State Police for mistreating his seven-year-old granddaughter on charges of using witchcraft to kill her biological dad.
The little girl who has wounds and injuries all over her body walked into a police constable’s house very close to her home in the state’s Awa-Ijebu district and announced her ordeal in grandparents’ possession.
The little one said she had lived with them since her father’s death.
He also gave touching account of how grandparents were going to put rubber on fire and use it to burn her all over her body.
She also told the police that the couple were continuing to mistreat her on suspicion of being a witch and using her witchcraft to kill her biological father.
Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrest in a release, saying a constable brought the girl to the Awa-Ijebu Police Station where the case was reported.
Abimbola, a Deputy Police Superintendent (DSP), said the state’s Divisional Police Officer mobilized detectives to and arrested the couple’s residence.
The couple were unable to justify their abuse of the innocent girl when interrogated, according to the Police Spokesman in the state.
However, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has given directive for a proper investigation of the case and diligent prosecution of the suspects.
