One Dies In Kano As 34 Doctors Test Positive For COVID-19

Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)’s State Branch, on Tuesday, said 34 doctors tested positive for the state’s novel coronavirus.

The president of the NMA, Dr. Sanusi Bala, told Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in that one of the reported cases has died.

Bala clarified that many of the casualties were the doctors at the Aminu Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and other state-run private clinics.

According to him, when attending to unsuspected COVID-19 cases, many of them were contaminated by regular clinical routines.

He vowed that the association will protect its members and appealed to the authorities by procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) to provide further protection for doctors.

Meanwhile, AKTH spokeswoman, Mrs. Hauwa Muhammed, told NAN that the hospital had procured and distributed PPE to frontline staff ever since.

He said hospital management had ordered all departmental consultants and heads to educate their staff on the correct use of the PPE.
