A commercial Ondo State motorcycle rider has raped a pregnant woman in the state’s Irele Local Government Area.
The 30-year-old suspect identified as Laolu Omogunwa is reportedly on the run after the crime has been committed and the police have declared him wanted.
The middle-aged woman was said to have employed the Ajagba motorcycle rider to a nearby farm settlement for the purpose of buying palm oil kegs.
But the perpetrator reportedly took the pregnant woman to a different route under the pretense that he would help her get cheap palm oil.
The victim explained that Omogunwa pushed her into a lonely path and stopped by the road unexpectedly before dragging her into the bush.
She said the perpetrator strangled her and also dispossessed her with a total of N150,000 of her cell phone before raping her until she was unconscious.
She said, “He nearly raped me to death, but when he found out I was already unconscious he quickly ran away.” A family source, who confirmed the incident, said a search party found the pregnant woman in the woods.
“It was because the family was unable to see her on time that they launched a search party for her immediately. She was too frail and was injured as she tried to crawl onto the lane.
“It took her 48 hours to regain consciousness, and as a result of heavy bleeding she lost the child,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, Ajagba’s Ahaba, Oba Adesayo Ajibade, said the motorcycle rider’s conduct had a serious impact on him and the group.
He said, “This will lead to low yield and starvation in the city unless the criminals please the land gods.”
Police sources in the state told Live News Nigeria that they were currently on the trail of the suspect.
