Nigerian Paralympic Champion, Esther Oyema Receives 4 Years Ban
Nigerian Para powerlifter and Paralympic gold medalist, Esther Oyema, has been banned for 4 years after she dedicated an anti-doping rule violation, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced.
A prohibited substance named 19-norandrosterone, used to be located in a urine sample she supplied on January 28, 2019 after the Lagos 2019 International Para Powerlifting Competition in Nigeria.
Oyema, who gained the gold at London 2012 in the women’s 48kg, will now be ineligible for competition for 4 years from May 3rd 2019 to May 2nd 2020, therefore missing the chance of Tokyo 2020.
She has additionally been stripped of the gold medal which she gained in the women’s 55kg competition in Lagos, collectively with any points and prizes. Each athlete is strictly liable for the substances found in his or her sample.
“An ADRV happens each time a prohibited substance (or its metabolites or markers) is determined in his or her bodily specimen, whether or now not the athlete deliberately or unintentionally used a prohibited substance or was once negligent or in any other case at fault.
