Nigeria May Go On Fresh Lockdown After 2 Weeks – Presidential Task Force
On Monday the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 lamented the growing rate of Covid-19 cases among people in government, saying it had a direct impact on the country’s governance and security.
The PTF chairman and secretary to the federation ‘s government, Boss Mustapha, who announced this at the Abuja Task Force Press conference, also said that the prospect of ordering a fresh complete lockdown to curb further virus spread could not be excluded.
The SGF, which urged influential Nigerians to take seriously the Covid-19 protocols, said the virus did not value status.
The warning from Mustapha came in the midst of rising Covid-19 cases among the state governors and other prominent Nigerians.
The virus has recently been contracted by state governors including Ebonyi’s David Umahi, Delta’s Ifeanyi Okowa, and their counterpart ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Alert people in authority, the SGF said, “Recently, we have seen a high rate of positive cases especially among those in authority. That impacts directly on our nation’s governance and security. We urge that all Nigerians exhibit vigilance and care, regardless of status. This virus is not discriminatory and the PTF will continue to retain its sensitisation messaging.
When asked whether the task force would consider a fresh lockdown in the face of what it had observed as disregard for guidelines, Mustapha said events of coming weeks would determine the next line of action.
He said, “We will not speculate on what will happen in future but we will protect the lives of Nigerians.
“To achieve that, if it means to lock down again, we will not shy away from that responsibility. We will recommend to the President who will look at the report and take a decision on our recommendation. What happens in the next two three weeks will determine what we will do.”
