Niger Government Cuts Salaries By 30 Percent
Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello has ordered all political appointees in the state to cut their salaries and allowances by 30 per cent.
This was confirmed in a statement signed on Tuesday by the State Government Secretary, Ahmed Matane.
Matane noted the discount instantly takes effect.
The cut has an effect on the governor, deputy governor, commissioners, special advisers and all other political appointees.
“The cut, which is temporary, also took into account the economic situation the coronavirus pandemic imposes on the state,” the statement read in part.
Matane added that when the economy improves, payment of full salaries and allowances would resume.
While regretting any inconvenience the affected officers may encounter as a result of the reduction, he “recognized at all times the patriotism, patience, and cooperation of all political appointees.”
