Landlord’s Son Stabs Tenant To Death Over Broom
A middle-aged man, Babangida Eluemuno, was arrested at his residence 9 Agba Road, Inland City, Onitsha, Anambra State for allegedly stabbing a vendor at Onitsha’s main market to death.
The deceased was identfied as a youth, Arinze Omeh, from the Enugwu-Ezike community in Enugu State’s Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, was reportedly stabbed to death after a brawl.
Narrating the incident, Arinze ‘s brother Oluchukwu Omeh told reporters Tuesday that trouble began when the perpetrator, a son to the deceased’s landlord, asked him to avoid using a broom intended to sweep inside the house to sweep outside.
He said: “On that fateful day, I returned home with Arinze, my younger brother, from the market.“As we sat down within the compound to rest and discuss our family matters, Babangida came out and warned my late brother to stop using the broom meant for sweeping the compound to sweep rooms.“In a reply, Arinze told Babangida that he had heard him because he had already sounded this same warning to him earlier in the morning, for which he gripped my brother.“It was an attempt to rescue Arinze from the grip of Babangida that he used a broken bottle and stabbed him on the left wrist and while he was still trying to control the blood, Babangida again reached for his broken-down tricycle and picked up a knife.”
Continuing, Oluchukwu said the suspect’s response irritated his late brother who rushed in his direction and landed a hard slap in his face.
According to him, he immediately hired a tricycle and hurried his late brother to the General Hospital, but the hospital officials denied him because of suspected complications.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident and said the incident was under investigation.
