Just In: Orji Kalu Still In Prison After Supreme Court Judgement
Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, remained in Kuje Prison even after a judgment of the Supreme Court ordered his retrial.
It was gathered that he is still in prison because Kalu ‘s release was not ordered by the Apex Court because he did not file any request for such.
The judgment concerns only the plaintiff, Mr. Ude Jones Udeogu, who challenged the property of a judge of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mohammed Idris, to try him, not the defendant.
The Nigeria Correctional Service Controller-General, Mr. Jaafar Ahmed, has also refused to release Kalu because the Supreme Court did not issue any order.
Kalu may have had to approach the Court of Appeal, where he has an issue pending, to apply for his release after the Supreme Court ‘s dismissal of the Federal High Court’s judgment, Lagos.
The Supreme Court clearly stated that the judgment relates only to the appellant, according to a copy of the judgment obtained exclusively by Live News Nigeria.
