Umahi’s claim is made against the backdrop of the ongoing ASUU strike.

This claim was made by Umahi on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Police Trust Fund that was hosted by Dr Ben Akabueze in Abakaliki, the capital of the Ebonyi State.

Umahi on Education in Nigeria: Umahi noted that secondary or vocational education was the fundamental education that every country aimed to achieve after criticizing Nigeria’s education system for being poorly articulated.

 Our basic problem in this country remains security, health and education. Let me say a little about education which is in our public domain and which is the ASUU. I think that our education system is not being properly articulated.

According to the governor, it is unreasonable for President Muhammadu Buhari’s federal government to borrow more than $1 trillion to satisfy the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Umahi’s claim is made against the backdrop of the ongoing strike by academics in the country.

As of Thursday, August 11, 2022, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike had lasted for 178 days and was still going strong.

According to the South-East Governors’ Forum chairman, Nigeria’s most difficult issues are security and education.
