First time in LUTH, Nigeria and Africa, 68-year-old woman give birth to set of twins
The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, says it has efficaciously delivered a 68-year-old woman of a set of twins, following an IVF conception.
Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, Chairman, LUTH Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the woman used to be pregnant for the first time.
Adeyemo said that she was delivered on April 14 via an optional Caesarean section, at 37 weeks gestation.
He stated that the IVF and embryo switch have been carried out at a facility outside LUTH.
Adeyemo in addition said that the female was, thereafter, referred to LUTH at early gestation and was as a result managed until she was delivered.
“This is the first in LUTH, Nigeria and Africa,” he said, including that each the mother and the infants have been in excellent conditions. (NAN)
