EFCC Urges Court To Deny Adeherself Bail

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has urged an Ikeja Special Offences Court to deny the bail of Adedamola Adewale (Adeherself), the popular social media influence.

Mr Samuel Daji, the anti-graft agency’s lead prosecution attorney, made the claim on Monday during Adewale’s bail hearing on charges of possession of fake documents.

“I urge the court to refuse the bail of the defendant and order accelerated hearing,” Daji said.

The defense lawyer, Mr Tunde Salami, had previously appealed to the court to grant bail on generous terms to Adewale, who has been in custody of the EFCC since 7 July.

Justice Sherifat Solebo adjourned the case until Wednesday for ruling on the bail application following the defense and prosecuting counsel’s submissions.

The defendant was arrested following intelligence reports provided by the EFCC on the activities of some young men on the Lekki axis of Lagos allegedly involved in internet fraud.

They were recorded to live larger than their perceived means of subsistence.

According to the EFCC, Adewale had a fraudulent document titled “WhatsApp” in her possession on June 15 with the intent to defraud.

“The crime infringes Section 318 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2011,” Daji had said.
