Customs and smugglers clash in Ogun leaving one person dead
The Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area Command I, has reportedly shot lifeless one individual at some point of a conflict with suspected smugglers alongside Aselu and Igua communities in the Yewa North Local Government of Ogun State.
It was once gathered that the incident happened on Saturday when the operatives accosted a convoy of bikes allegedly ferrying smuggled overseas parboiled rice alongside the bush paths of the communities.
The spokesman for the Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta.
Maiwada explained that the smugglers on sighting the Customs officers launched an attack on them.
“The officers correctly repelled the assault launched by the smugglers and at the end, one of the smugglers died and his corpse has on account that been deposited in a mortuary.
“Furthermore, the arrival of reinforcement groups enabled the evacuation of forty-four baggage of rice and two bikes deserted by the smugglers to the Government Warehouse, Abeokuta for protected retaining and further investigation.”
