Nigeria’s Federal Government has said school disinfection against COVID-19 would commence on Tuesday, in preparation for the resumption of academic activities.

Environment Muhammad Mahmood disclosed this on Monday while commenting on COVID-19 at the Presidential Task Force.

He explained that there should be enough teams on the ground to do the test, the delay in the decontamination process was there.

“The delay is because it’s better to disinfect and decontaminate within a short time so that when they’ve been freshly decontaminated, the kids will go back to these classes.

“This is because the chemicals we use are not long-lasting chemicals; they have short periods of contact to do their job. So we’ll get that done before Monday when they (schoolchildren) return to using these lessons, “said Mahmmood.

For example, the state government of Lagos has announced the reopening of in ‘transitional classes’ for students.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had instructed Basic Six, JSS 3, and SS3 students to resume on 3 August 2020.
