Body Of Teenager Swept Away By Flood In Lagos Recovered
According to Islamic laws, the body of the 19-year-old girl swept away by flood at Surulere was buried beside the Onilegogoro Canal.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said that on June 22, near Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate, the remains of the 19-year-old teenager who was swept away by flood were retrieved and buried next to the Onilegogoro Canal.
LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made the announcement Wednesday in Lagos.
Simply identified as Ayisat was on June 22, he said the 19-year-old girl was reportedly swept away by a heavy flood around 12 pm. At the axis of Alapafuja, Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate, after a torrential rainfall in the state.
Oke-Osanyintolu said on June 22 that LASEMA Response Team (LRT) and members of the group hunted for her body to no avail through the adjacent canals.
Nevertheless, he said her dead body was later discovered on June 23 at Onilegogoro Canal in Surulere around 8:30 a.m.
“Apart from the canal at Onilegogoro in Surulere she was buried by community members,” he said.
