This was condemned by ASUU in a statement signed by the Chairperson of the BUK chapter, Professor Haruna Musa, and the chapter’s Secretary, Dr. Musa Umar Madugu.

The statement read in part, “We all know that the statutory responsibility of security personnel to protect lives and property, not to harass, intimidate and assault innocent citizens.

“Alas, DSS operatives are notorious for crass violation of fundamental human rights of innocent through torture and assaults.

“We recall that sometime in 2012, they invaded ASUU-BUK secretariat at Old Campus and assaulted our then ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator and immediate past branch Chairperson in their attempt to abduct him.

“Therefore, we urge the DSS to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book in order to stop the anarchy, torture, and harassment of innocent Nigerians. The union is ready to deploy all the available legal and legitimate instruments to ensure that justice is done on the matter,” the statement added.
