Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, has declared a 48-hour nationwide state of emergency in response to escalating tensions with Lebanon.
The move follows massive Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese territory.
The Israeli military deployed over 100 jets to target Lebanese territories, aiming to thwart a larger attack. Hezbollah retaliated with hundreds of rockets and drones on Israeli territory early Sunday.
Gallant stated, “The declaration on the state of emergency enables the IDF to issue instructions to the citizens of Israel, including limiting gatherings and closing sites where it may be relevant.” The 48-hour state of emergency took effect at 6:00 am.
Three deaths were confirmed in Lebanon, while Israel reported no fatalities. The Israeli military claimed to have destroyed thousands of launcher barrels, primarily targeting northern Israel and some central areas.
Hezbollah dismissed Israel’s claims, stating they successfully launched drones as planned. The group vowed to continue its response to the killing of its member, Shukr, saying it would take “some time.”
The conflict has raised concerns about regional stability. The international community is urging restraint and diplomacy to resolve the crisis.
