Nigerian singer, Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has shared his harrowing experience with drug addiction, revealing a shocking episode that nearly claimed his life.
In a candid interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon recounted his struggles with substance abuse, which led to a disturbing incident outside his record label office. “There was a day my manager saw me and was alarmed by my condition. He asked what was wrong with me, and I told him I only smoked weed,” he said.
Crayon’s descent into addiction took a toll on his mental health, landing him in a psychiatric hospital in Lekki. “I almost jumped out of a moving car. It was that crazy. It was similar to Mohbad’s situation,” he revealed.
However, Crayon credits his colleague, Rema, for intervening during his darkest moment. “Rema drove there and carried a stick, he was ready to fight. I was lying down on Rema’s lap. Rema was like, ‘Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great because I feel like this is the final battle you’re about to fight.’
Crayon’s journey to recovery began after his hospitalization, when he sought refuge at Don Jazzy’s residence. The ‘Ngozi’ crooner’s bravery in sharing his story serves as a beacon of hope for those struggling with addiction.
With his newfound sobriety, Crayon is determined to rebuild his life and career, inspiring fans with his resilience.
