The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has achieved a significant milestone in its upload of results from the Edo governorship election to its Results Viewing Portal (IReV).
As of the latest update, 90.33% of the results, totaling 4,082 out of 4,519 polling units, have been successfully transmitted onto the portal.
This progress leaves only 437 polling units’ results pending upload. The swift upload of results demonstrates INEC’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
Earlier, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Anugbum Onuoha, reassured the public that electronic transmission of results would proceed smoothly, barring any network disruptions. He emphasized the crucial role of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the electoral process.
“We have trained the operators for the BVAS. They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters and to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level and that polling unit. After that, the voters will start voting. At the end of the day, they will count the results, and it will be uploaded to our IReV,” Onuoha stated.
The Edo governorship election is a highly contested race, with top contenders including the Peoples Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo, All Progressives Congress’ Monday Okpebholo, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party vying for votes from 2.2 million voters across 18 local government areas.
Stay tuned for further updates as the remaining results are uploaded and the outcome of the election becomes clearer.
