Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has stirred controversy with his latest comments, blaming the late Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, for his own demise.
In an explosive interview on Quincy Jonze’s ‘Echoo Room’ podcast, Portable claimed Fela’s activist stance led to his untimely death. “According to what we were told, if Fela had minded his business a little he would have lived longer. But he was busy fighting for Nigerians wey no fight for their selves,” Portable said.
The singer’s remarks have sparked outrage among Fela’s fans and followers, who view his comments as disrespectful to the legendary musician’s legacy.
Portable also addressed his ongoing feud with rapper Zlatan Ibile, referring to him as “the devil” responsible for straining his relationship with Davido. “I was in America looking for foreign artistes. I was busy displaying my madness online when Davido called me to come. Me and Davido did not quarrel until when the devil Zlatan came,” Portable alleged.
The comments have ignited a heated debate on social media, with many questioning Portable’s understanding of Fela’s impact on Nigerian music and society.
Fela’s family and estate have yet to respond to Portable’s comments. Meanwhile, fans continue to express disappointment and outrage over the singer’s remarks.
