The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was summoned by the party’s disciplinary committee.
Senator Olaka Nwogu, a member of the PDP Disciplinary Committee, described the reports as misinformation spread by individuals with personal agendas. “I am a member of the disciplinary committee of the party. I was disturbed when the report came that Nyesom Wike had been summoned at a time when the Disciplinary Committee has not even met to consider any of these things,” Nwogu stated.
Nwogu’s clarification contradicts earlier claims by the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, that Wike was summoned for alleged anti-party activities.
The senator attributed the misinformation to individuals familiar with the situation. “There has been a lot of misinformation to the public sometimes by people who should know better, who shouldn’t do that for reasons they know best,” Nwogu noted.
He further explained that the disciplinary committee is still organizing itself to carry out its functions. “There are allegations that are flying all over the place, and even the committee’s work is being put in a different light from what the committee has tried to do. The committee is still organizing itself to now look at its functions.”
The development is the latest in the series of internal wranglings within the opposition party.
