The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for an immediate reversal of the increased pump price of petrol across the country.
The NLC expressed its disappointment with President Bola Tinubu after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) increased the official price of fuel from N617 to N897 per litre. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, claimed that the union accepted the N70,000 minimum wage under the understanding that there would be no further increase in fuel prices.
Ajaero warned that the NLC will take action against the price hike, stating that the union’s organs will meet in the coming days to make decisions that will be made public. He emphasized that the union will not tolerate any further increases in fuel prices.
In a post on its social media page, the NLC demanded an “immediate reversal” of the pump price of petrol, calling on the government to take action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
The NLC leadership is set to meet in the coming days to discuss the next course of action, with Ajaero promising that the union will make its decisions public. The meeting is expected to determine the union’s response to the fuel price hike and its impact on Nigerian workers.
