Andrew Wynne, a British national declared wanted by the Nigeria Police for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has denied the allegation.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wynne said he was unaware of the warrant for his arrest and was willing to cooperate with the police.
The Nigeria Police had earlier accused Wynne of building a network of sleeper cells to topple the government and plunge the nation into chaos. Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi said Wynne rented a space at Labour House and established a school as a decoy for his subversive activities.
Wynne’s wife denied the allegations, saying her husband was being framed due to a dispute with one Olumide Inokunye. She said her husband had been visiting Nigeria for 25 years and had never been involved in any terrorist activities.
The police declared Wynne and his alleged local coordinator, Lucky Obiyan, wanted for their roles in the alleged plot. A N20m bounty was placed on their heads, with the police urging anyone with information leading to their arrest to come forward.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has activated INTERPOL tools and other global policing networks to support ongoing domestic investigations aimed at locating and apprehending the suspects.
