A devastating building collapse occurred in the Makwarari quarters of Kano metropolis on Friday, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman, Balarabe Tijjani, and injuring her two children.
The one-storey building crumbled following a prolonged downpour in the area, which lasted from Thursday night to Friday morning. The incident happened at about 9:30 am on Friday, according to the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi.
A resident revealed that the mother and her two children, Abdulnasir and Abdallah, aged 11 and 13, were rescued from the debris and rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital. Unfortunately, Tijjani succumbed to her injuries, while the children are receiving treatment.
Abdullahi confirmed the incident, stating, “The building crushed three people, mother, Balaraba Abba, about 35 years old, and two children, Abdulnasir Jilani, about 12 years old, and Abdullahi Jilani, about 9 years old. With the effort of the people around the area, all victims were rescued alive and taken to Murtala Muhammad hospital on the arrival of the brigade.”
