Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, is set to appear at the police headquarters today, amidst a solidarity march by union members and affiliate associations across the country.
Ajaero was invited by the police to answer questions on alleged involvement in terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony. The police had earlier raided the NLC national secretariat in Abuja, sparking widespread condemnation.
The NLC Central Working Committee has mobilized members for a peaceful procession and prayer session in solidarity with Ajaero. The march will take place in Abuja and across the 36 states, with members gathering at state secretariats and proceeding to state police headquarters for a prayer session.
The NLC has described the allegations against Ajaero as trumped-up and politically motivated to silence organized labour. The union has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if Ajaero is detained.
The NLC has urged members to remain peaceful and orderly during the procession and prayer session, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in defending civic rights and the integrity of the labour movement.
