A devastating road accident on the Ondo-Ore Expressway has claimed the lives of 16 people, with three others injured.
The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Ibitoye Samuel, has warned motorists to adhere to traffic rules to avoid such tragedies.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night at Ajue community in Odigbo Local Government Area, involving a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck. The head-on collision led to the bus catching fire, resulting in the loss of 16 lives.
Preliminary investigations reveal that speeding and wrongful overtaking caused the crash. The Sector Commander emphasized the importance of driving with caution, observing traffic rules, and avoiding dangerous practices like speeding and overtaking.
Ibitoye advised motorists to “drive with care, avoid speeding and dangerous overtaking, and not travel with petrol inside jerrycans in their vehicles.” The FRSC urges all road users to exercise caution and responsibility to prevent such fatal accidents.
