A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Mohammed Isimbabi, has defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker of the House, Mr Danladi Jatau, announced Isimbabi’s defection during proceedings on Monday in Lafia, citing division in NNPP at the national level as the reason.
Jatau commended Isimbabi for his bold step in joining the ruling APC in the state, adding that his defection would add value to the party. The APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, also commended Isimbabi for joining the party and assured him of equity and fairness.
Mr Musa Abubakar (NNPP-Doma South) congratulated Isimbabi on his defection and revealed that he would also join APC soon. “Hon Isimbabi’s defection is a welcome development. We share common political interests. I will be leaving NNPP soon,” he said.
Isimbabi said he defected from NNPP due to the division within the party at the national level. He appreciated NNPP for giving him the platform to vie for election, which he won to become a member of the assembly. “Before taking this decision, I have gone round the six electoral wards of my constituency to consult them on my defection. They have given me the go ahead to defect to APC,” he said.
The lawmaker assured his constituents that he would continue to serve them and work towards improving their standard of living. His defection brings the number of APC members in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to [insert number].
