The Niger State Government has made a passionate appeal to the Nigerian Army to deploy troops to communities under siege by bandits.
This call comes after a series of devastating attacks on local governments, resulting in loss of life and property.
Acting Governor Yakubu Garba made the appeal during the Fida’u prayer for 13 farmers killed by bandits in Shiroro Local Government. He emphasized the need for military presence in areas like Allawa, stating that the withdrawal of troops has weakened efforts to combat insecurity.
Isah Allawa, father of one of the victims, recounted the brutal killing of his son, Mubarak Isah, and others from Allawa. Widow Murjanatu Musa, who lost her son in the attack, shared her painful experience of losing her husband to bandits in 2023.
Garba highlighted the Bago-led administration’s strategies to end insecurity, which had brought temporary safety to commuters along major roads in Shiroro council. However, the recent attacks have underscored the need for sustained military presence in affected areas.
