The Edo State chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) have dismissed the recent Africa Polling Institute poll results, which projected the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the leading party in the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
According to Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, APC Publicity Secretary, the poll’s accuracy is questionable due to the lack of transparency in the indices used to conduct the survey. “The report of the institute cannot pass the accuracy test… The campaign we have done in Edo and the number of persons we have spoken to in the 192 wards and 18 local government areas shows that the APC is in the lead.”
Similarly, Sam Uruopa, LP Publicity Secretary, expressed skepticism about the poll’s accuracy, citing discrepancies between the results and the party’s internal polls. “The African Polling Institute polling result is just one of many polls conducted ahead of the election… Our own internal polls and grassroots engagement suggest a different outcome. Olumide Akpata is the most popular and widely accepted candidate by Edo people.”
Both parties remain confident of their chances in the upcoming election, with the APC and LP asserting that their respective candidates will emerge victorious. The PDP has yet to respond to the criticisms of the poll results.
