A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an ex parte order halting the scheduled wards, Local Government, and state congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Justice Godwin Ollor granted the restraining order in response to a suit filed by Peter Ohochukwu and Hajia Ndidi-Chukwuma on behalf of the elected executive members of the party in Rivers State. The order restrains the national leadership of the APC, the Inspector General of Police, and INEC from conducting or supervising any elections to form a new Rivers State executive committee.
The defendants, including the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, are also barred from suspending the Beke-led executive or interfering in their activities pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
Justice Ollor emphasized that his ruling was based on the merit of the application and oral arguments presented by the plaintiff’s counsel, Collins Dike. The case has been adjourned until September 9, 2024, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
This development has significant implications for the APC in Rivers State, as it halts the party’s plans to reconstitute its executive committee. The Beke-led executive, reinstated by a previous court order, remains in place pending the outcome of this suit.
