Tragedy has struck in Sokoto State as the abducted district head of Gatawa, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, has died in bandits’ captivity.
The monarch’s death was confirmed by a family source, who attributed it to the non-payment of the ransom demanded by the bandits.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and the government of Sokoto State, lamenting the “heinous act of violence” that led to the monarch’s demise. Atiku emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to protect citizens’ lives and property.
In a recent video, the monarch appealed to the Sokoto State Government, the Sultanate Council, and his relatives to help pay the ransom and secure his release. Alhaji Bawa, 74, who had worked for the state government for 45 years, was seen with blood-stained clothes, begging for his life.
The Sokoto State Police Command has yet to confirm the monarch’s death, according to spokesman Ahmed Rufai.
