Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has identified self-centred leadership as the bane of Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges.
Speaking at the Leadership Empowerment International Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo emphasized the need for leaders to prioritize service to the community over personal interests.
Obasanjo urged leaders to loosen their hold on the country, stating, “There is no end to leadership and service to your community until you breathe the last… If we can get the leadership right, we will get all other things right.”
The conference conferred honorary doctorates in leadership on 25 distinguished Nigerians, recognizing their contributions to the country.
Obasanjo commended the Leadership Empowerment International Conference for promoting good leadership, saying, “We must encourage and inculcate good leadership into every level of our national life.”
