The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculations of a change in leadership, describing it as “wishful thinking”.
Nze Chidi Duru, Deputy National Organising Secretary, emphasized the need for stability in the party’s administration, stating that arbitrary removal of leadership could cause instability and upset the party’s structure.
Rumors had circulated about President Bola Tinubu considering an ambassadorial position for Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman, to exit the country due to his ongoing corruption trial.
Some party stalwarts from the North-Central zone have been agitating for the leadership seat to return to their zone, fueling speculation about Ganduje’s removal.
A former APC chairmanship aspirant, Muhammad Etsu, had filed a legal injunction to stop Ganduje from parading himself as national chairman, arguing that the seat should remain in the North-Central zone.
Festus Fuanter, APC Deputy National Secretary, declined to comment on the matter, while Duru reassured that the party’s leadership decision was taken at the NEC level and was not subject to arbitrary change.
