The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has announced that local government elections will hold on September 28, 2024.
This follows the inauguration of the commission’s members by Governor Chukwuma Soludo last week, with a charge to deliver credible polls.
In a statement signed by ANSIEC Chairman, Genevieve C. Osakwe, the commission invited registered political parties and the public to participate in the electoral process. “The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission wishes to inform all registered Political Parties and the general public that Local Government Elections in the State will be held on Saturday September 28, 2024.”
The election timetable and schedule of activities can be obtained from the ANSIEC headquarters in Awka from August 14, 2024. This development comes after prolonged agitations by civil society groups, politicians, and journalists for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
Governor Soludo’s administration has finally honoured its promise to conduct the polls, marking a significant milestone in the state’s democratic journey. The elections are expected to be free, fair, and credible.
