In a scathing open letter, Peter Okoye, one half of the popular Nigerian music duo P-Square, has responded to his brother Paul’s recent interviews, where he claimed to have written and sung 99% of their songs.
Peter expressed disappointment and hurt over Paul’s constant discrediting of his efforts in the group, listing several songs he had written, including “Ejeajo,” “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” and “Personally,” which Paul had failed to acknowledge.
“My dear brother Paul, I am not in any competition with you or anybody else. However, seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly discredit my efforts in the group that we both created and built together really speaks volumes,” Peter wrote.
He accused Paul of always using “I” and “me” in interviews, making it seem like he was the sole talent behind P-Square. “Every time I have spoken in interviews about P-SQUARE, I have always used ‘we’ and ‘us’ because I saw us as a team. But whenever you speak, it’s always ‘I’ and ‘me,’ even when I’m standing right beside you.”
Peter emphasized that the fans loved P-Square because of their combined effort and uniqueness, not just for one person’s talent. “One thing you need to understand clearly is that the fans didn’t fall in love with P-SQUARE because of who sang or danced the most. What made us special was the magic that came from our combined effort – us two!”
The brothers have been at odds since their last breakup, with both pursuing solo careers as Rudeboy and Mr. P. Peter wished Paul the best but hoped they could reclaim their spot as the top music group in Africa by working together.
