A devastating plane crash occurred in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state on Friday, with 62 people on board.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his concern, stating, “A plane just crashed in the city of Vinhedo in Sao Paulo, with 58 passengers and four crew members, and it seems that everyone died.”
The aircraft, operated by Voepass, was en route from Cascavel to Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos international airport when the incident happened. Voepass confirmed the crash in a statement, saying, “An accident involving flight 2283 occurred… There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board.”
Dramatic images showed the plane nosediving at high speed, followed by a massive column of smoke rising from the crash site in a residential area. The Fire Department of Sao Paulo is working to rescue those affected, with seven teams involved.
The city of Vinhedo, located 80 kilometers northwest of Sao Paulo, is in shock as the investigation into the cause of the crash begins.
