A leading British crocodile expert, Adam Britton, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Australia for sexually abusing dozens of dogs and committing animal cruelty.
The 53-year-old zoologist, who worked with prominent media outlets like BBC and National Geographic, pleaded guilty to 56 charges related to bestiality and animal cruelty.
Britton’s abuse was uncovered in April 2022 after a search of his property in rural Darwin revealed child abuse material on his laptop and videos of him torturing animals. The Northern Territory Supreme Court heard that Britton filmed himself abusing the animals, leading to their deaths, and shared the videos online under pseudonyms.
Chief Justice Michael Grant described Britton’s actions as “depravity that falls outside any ordinary human conception.” Britton will be eligible for parole in April 2028, having already served time. He is also banned from owning mammals for life.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many expressing horror at Britton’s actions. His arrest and sentencing serve as a reminder of the need for vigilance in preventing animal abuse and cruelty.
