The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into turmoil following the suspension of three top officials, including State Chairman, Sir John Ngbede, State Secretary, Joseph Nyam, and State Organising Secretary, Moses Audu.
The suspension, announced by Chief Bemgba Iortyom, the party’s state publicity officer, was reportedly due to allegations of impersonation, inciting disruptions during ward congresses, and mismanagement of party finances.
The affected officials have been summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee to address the charges. However, Sir Ngbede has denied knowledge of the suspension, claiming that the individuals behind the move have resigned their positions to contest for various offices in the upcoming congresses.
Ngbede stated, “I don’t know about that… Bemgba Iortyom is suspended by his ward, so he is not the publicity secretary of the party. We didn’t have any meetings, and there was no State Working Committee meeting, so where did they get that authority of suspending the chairman?”
The crisis has led to the appointment of Isaac Mffo, the State Deputy Chairman, as the acting State Chairman of the PDP in Benue State. The party’s disciplinary committee is expected to investigate the allegations and determine the fate of the suspended officials.
