Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos and Bukuru metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
The decision was made after reported cases of looting and terror unleashed by hoodlums in the Bauchi Road community and Zolo Junction. According to a statement by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the curfew is aimed at enhancing security and maintaining public order.
Governor Mutfwang warned those planning to unleash further terror to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law. He also directed security agencies to ensure total enforcement of the curfew and remain vigilant to prevent disruptions to law and order.
The governor expressed gratitude to citizens, particularly the clergy and imams, for their support and cooperation during the nationwide protest. He praised their commitment to maintaining peace and unity, saying, “The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I urge everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as we work together to build a united and progressive Plateau.”
