Jigawa State has been placed under a 24-hour curfew, effective Thursday, August 1, 2024, until further notice, as announced by Governor Mallam Umar Namadi in a televised address to the state.
The curfew aims to maintain law and order amidst rising tensions in the state. However, in consideration of the Muslim faithful, the curfew will be temporarily relaxed on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm, to allow for Juma’at prayers.
Governor Namadi emphasized that no vehicles will be allowed to convey people to the mosques during this period. He assured that the decision will be reviewed after assessing the situation, leaving room for possible adjustments.
The curfew is a precautionary measure to ensure public safety and maintain peace in Jigawa State. Citizens are advised to comply with the directive to avoid any disruptions or consequences.
