Tragedy struck in Suleja, Niger State, as at least four people were killed and several others injured during the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.
The victims, including Yahaya Nda Isah and Mallam Abu, were caught in the crossfire as security operatives struggled to disperse protesters who had barricaded the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Isah, a resident of Hassan Dalatu Road, Suleja, was hit by a stray bullet while riding his bike in front of the Suleja Police ‘A’ Division, where protesters had gathered.
According to eyewitnesses, three others were shot at the same location, while two more were shot at the Suleja Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna road.
The protest has taken a violent turn in Niger State, with hoodlums attempting to set the Tafa Local Government Area ablaze, but were dispersed by security operatives.
The situation has been described as “dire” by residents, with many forced to flee for their lives.
The Niger State Police Command and Abuja Police Command have confirmed the incidents, with the latter stating that the protest in the nation’s capital has been hijacked by hoodlums.
