As the #EndBadGovernance protest kicks off today, August 1, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning to troublemakers and arsonists, vowing to decisively deal with them.
In a statement signed personally by the police boss, Egbetokun accused protest organizers of failing to provide crucial details, including participant names and rally routes. He alleged that intelligence suggests the protests aim to unleash mayhem.
Egbetokun directed police officers to act decisively against any acts of arson, intimidation, harassment, or criminality, stating: “Perpetrators of any crime will be arrested and promptly prosecuted.”
He also expressed concerns about the protest’s name, “Take It Back Movement”, citing its “undemocratic, unconstitutional, and illegal connotations”. The police are on high alert to maintain law and order during the nationwide protest.
