The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning as legendary singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu, reportedly passed away at the age of 72.
According to eyewitnesses, Onwenu slumped at a birthday party in Lagos on Tuesday night and was rushed to Reddington Hospital, where she sadly passed away.
An eyewitness at the party confirmed the news, saying, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it.”
Although the family has yet to officially announce her passing, tributes have begun pouring in for the iconic artist. Onwenu will be remembered for her soulful music albums, including “In The Morning Light” and “Dancing In The Sun”, as well as her notable roles in films like “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lions Heart”. Her legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of Nigerians and fans around the world.
