The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued a two-month-old baby boy from a couple, Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam, during a naming ceremony in the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the couple had paid N2,350,000 to purchase the baby from a suspected child trafficker, Loretta Nelson.
The investigation revealed that Nelson had bought the baby from a pastor, Peter Udoh, for N1,450,000, who in turn had purchased it from another suspected trafficker, Gloria Sunday, for N500,000.
Sunday was arrested after the baby’s mother reported the theft on July 11, 2024. Detectives then followed a trail of suspects, leading to the arrest of Udoh in Ogun State and Nelson in Festac Town, Lagos.
Hundeyin stated that the suspects will be arraigned in court after investigations are completed. The rescue of the baby boy has brought relief to the family and highlights the police’s efforts to combat child trafficking in the state.
