Ahead of the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, former Kano State governor and NNPP national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has advised organizers to abandon the plan.
Instead, he recommends utilizing the power of the ballot to effect change.
In a statement, Kwankwaso emphasized that regime change through democratic means is more efficient than protests. He highlighted various crises stemming from poor governance, including federal interference in Kano State’s chieftaincy matters, impeachment of the Edo State Deputy Governor, political turmoil in Rivers State, and widespread insecurity.
Kwankwaso argued that these issues are symptomatic of a lack of accountability and transparency, leading to hunger, insecurity, and hopelessness among citizens. He called on leaders to address these challenges through good governance and adherence to the rule of law.
Acknowledging the frustration and yearning for a better Nigeria, Kwankwaso cautioned against the potential consequences of protests. He urged Nigerians to consider the power of their vote as the most effective tool for change, warning that protests often escalate into violence, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.
