Chelsea captain Reece James has expressed concerns over the potential impact of the racist chanting incident involving teammate Enzo Fernandez on team dynamics.
The controversy erupted after a viral video showed Enzo and some Argentina teammates singing a derogatory song about French players of African descent during Copa America celebrations.
France international Wesley Fofana, of Ivorian descent, condemned the “uninhibited racism” displayed by the Argentina players. Enzo has since apologized, and an internal investigation is underway at Chelsea.
In an interview with ESPN, James acknowledged the issue, saying, “There’s always the factor where it doesn’t sit right with people when there could be a problem… I hope things can be resolved smoothly and we can move forward with the season.”
The incident has sparked a wider conversation about racism in football, with many calling for swift action to address the issue.
