The Lagos State Police Command has expressed concern over the explicit content in rising singer Ayo Maff’s new song, “Last Week”.
The song’s lyrics, which glorify drug use, have sparked outrage among law enforcement officials.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, the lyrics promote drug abuse and may encourage young people to engage in criminal behavior. He noted that half of the youths in prison are there due to drug-related offenses.
Hundeyin took to social media to express his concerns, writing, “He does what on Mondays and Saturdays?… Fact: Half of the young ones in prison today wouldn’t be there if they didn’t do drugs. Drugs are a precursor to everything bad.”
The singer’s lyrics, which mention using Canadian Loud, a strong synthetic strain of cannabis, have been criticized for perpetuating harmful behavior. The police spokesperson’s comments come as a warning to the entertainment industry to be mindful of the content they produce.
