In a bid to enhance the quality of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Nigeria, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has fully transitioned to a digital platform for all quality assurance processes.
According to a statement by the Head of Media Unit, Fatima Abubakar, the digitalisation policy has recorded significant success, with 489 institutions and stakeholders engaging with the digital system. Digital assessments and documentation processes have been completed for 17 institutions across the six geo-political zones, with approvals granted accordingly.
The NBTE’s digitalisation drive, led by Prof. Idris Bugaje, aims to deliver more efficient, effective, and transparent quality assurance processes, ensuring cost-effectiveness and integrity. With this development, physical accreditation and quality assurance activities will be phased out effective August 2024.
The board has introduced digital monitoring to ensure strict compliance with established standards and encourages all polytechnics, technical institutions, and stakeholders to embrace these technology-driven digitalization processes for a more efficient and transparent quality assurance exercise.
The statement described the transition as a “significant leap forward” and described the progress made in driving the digitalisation policy as “tremendous”. The board’s digitalisation policy aligns with the Federal Government’s digital-driven policies and the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
